• For the 'Urbanisation in Developing Countries Programme' funded by the World Bank, compiled data and performed regression analysis to study various aspects of urban growth in African cities

• Represented the centre in Nairobi to negotiate data purchases

• Co-manage/consult for a pro-bono consultancy based at LSE that provides strategic advice for NGOs and charities, such as Save the Children, WWF UK and Action for Hearing Loss (formerly RNID)

• Company Management: With three other Principals, defined the firm’s objectives for the year, acquired new clients and projects, and recruited 40 consultants by screening CVs and interviewing applicants

• Project Management: Manage teams of 8-10 consultants by designing project methodology, setting deadlines,  assigning responsibilities, trouble-shooting problems and maintaining client relationships

• Research/Analysis: Project examples: (1) assessing how a charity to drive innovation in the assistive technology market; (2) evaluating potential demand for a charity’s new service; (3) developing performance indicators for a disability charity to measure progress and impact; (4) analysing best practices in scaling up development projects

 

UNESCO (Education for All Global Monitoring Report) | London, UK (October 2014 – March 2015)

• For UNESCO’s Education for All Global Monitoring Report, assessed links between education and sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices in urban areas

• Research/Analysis: Completed a comparative analysis of WASH programmes in contrasting cities; Identified the pathways and critical factors that allow educational interventions to influence successful WASH outcomes

 

MERCY CORPS UGANDA | Kotido/Abim, Uganda (June – September 2014)

  Research Intern, Market Systems and Gender

• Evaluated the use of a market-facilitation (M4P) approach to improving maternal/child health in northern Uganda, by studying the gaps between consumer need and private sector strategies, and determining solutions to fill them

• Project Design/Management: Designed research methodology, developed survey tools with advice from the Gender, Health and Economic Development teams and coordinated schedules, responsibilities and logistics

• Research/Analysis: Completed an extensive literature review, by summarizing related reports and analyzing  national/regional household-level datasets using STATA; Developed methods for analyzing qualitative data

• Strategy Development/Report Writing: Produced a final report that systematically mapped out the local maternal/child health market and outlined gaps; Explored opportunities for market innovation to fill these gaps

• Directed a study investigating the impact of male migration on the soft skills of left-behind wives in rural India

• Project Management: Designed research methodology, planned logistics and schedule; Developed surveys, trained numerators and supervised all field interviews

• Research/Analysis: Compiled a literature review of related studies; Analyzed collected primary data using STATA

• Report Writing: Summarized essential findings and outlined strategies for the NGO to improve their related programmes; Wrote a report with recommendations for improving the NGO’s research methods
